S 107 CPC
(1) Every information relating to the commission of an offence, if given orally to an officer in charge of
a police station, shall be reduced to writing by him or under his direction and be read over to the
informant.
When you are making a police report, the PO will write it down for you and THEN he will read it over to you before asking you to sign it. The purpose and intent of this requirement is to give you an opportunity to make any corrections if you wish. This is to prevent you later changing your story by saying - "I did not say that." OR "Yes I said that but I did not mean that" or any other original bullshit maneuvers.
