The place and time of execution will be decided by the General Superintendant of Prison- which is usually carried out at 4 a.m. Prior to the execution there will be restricted to a place called
" Bilik Akhir" [ translated not as Final Room but as Final Destination). The author of this blog visits them as necessity requires. The hanging room is a very spooky place and even when the lights are on , the atmosphere is heavy.Many convicted criminals were hanged there including Mona Fendi and the Al- Maunah gangs leader. When the hangman arrives,he is escorted by 4 other wardens to the prison cell. The prisoner is sleeping soundly, cuddled up under his blanket.The wardens wake him up and he is startled."Masa sudah sampai" [Its time] He usually starts screaming very loudly and yelling for his lawyer or mother. Sometimes the wardens have to literally drag the person to the death chamber and put the thick ropes around his neck. At this point the prisoner will break down into screams, sobs,loud cries, pleas for mercy and curses. A common cry is " I don't want to die"
Then the struggle between life and death begins at the gallows.It is really a terrifying time.The soul will leave the body between 2-5 minutes.The stronger ones will struggle until the last breath as they do not want to leave this life.And after the struggle, the body will jerk violently. If the body is big, the neck will break. Then the soul will be forced out of the body and will leave in anguish. Then the wardens wait a few more minutes to make sure that all breathing has stopped.At this time the body will hanging limply from the gallows. Then the body is taken down and the doctor examines him one last time. Then he officialy certifies that the body is dead and is required to sign an official certificate to that effect.
